Introduction to Motivational Interviewing Part II - Skills Practice

The posted time is inclusive of the 15 minute registration period. If you arrive later than 30 minutes from the posted time, you will be turned away and unable to attend the training.

Course Description: This is an opportunity to recite the process of change and fundamental spirit and principles of MI, practice strengthening empathic counseling skills (OARS), practice the directive aspects of MI, and apply and practice MI spirit and techniques for meeting resistance.


Introduction to Motivational Interviewing is a pre-requisite for Motivational Skills Training.

Learning Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help you:

  1. Practice and utilize the OARS communication style in structured “real play” counseling activities for up to twenty minutes.
  2. Apply and utilize the guiding aspects of MI to elicit "Change Talk" in structured “real play” counseling activities for up to twenty minutes.
  3. Apply and demonstrate the guiding aspects of MI and the MI Spirit to roll with resistance/sustain talk in structured “real play” counseling activities for up to twenty minutes.

Audience: Basic Level Course; Psychologists, MFTs, LCSWs, Nurses and Clinical Staff
